Lovely in Lilac

02 24 17

The midnight blogger strikes again. Why am I always so tiiiiiiiired when I put up a post? Well, I guess because it’s midnight, duh.

Whenever Addition Elle gets new spring bras/panties I always have to buy them all. Not a fan of the fall oranges/reds or the winter jewel tones, but bring on all the spring pastels, please and thanks. I just loveeeeeEEEe this unique purpley blue colour. And I’m always down for panties that are sheer enough to show off my cute flabby tum while still hiding my vaGiynya.

It was 18 degrees celsius today!! Totally warm enough to lounge around in a bra and panties all day. I actually ended up going to the beach with the dog and hanging out in a tshirt for a couple hours. And getting stung by a wasp. In February. Cool. Fun fact, I believed I was immune to wasp stings until I was like 24 because when I was a kid I got stung, which TERRIFIED me, and I refused to leave the house for days. So, my mom told me that once you got stung once, it would never happen again. Like chicken pox. And I believed in this weird insect version of a Santa Clause-like-myth until my mid twenties. My sweet lil mom just wanted her daughter to be able to go outside again and just conveniently forgot to tell me she made it up.

V Day

02 18 17

I guess I have normal person hair now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I usually go to Good Day Hairshop and either get 1. grey or 2. a weird colour like pink or peach or blue or purple but this time I asked for blondeish so I guess I’m an grown-up now?? Ha, hahahaha. Never. L’Oreal sent me some of their new temporary hair colour anyway (Thanks guys!!!) so I’m going back to pink for a bit.

So, don’t ask me what the heck this thing is. It’s a big, pink, park, thing. Probably for working out or something, therefore I know nothing about it. It’s near my pal Erica’s condo so we thought it would be cute for a Valentines Day shoot. Oh lordy lordy. I’m trying to write this post and I’m seeing double because I’m SO TIRED. I really don’t have much to say anyway, other than I hope everyone had a nice V-day whether you’re single or attached. Just got a really weird image in my head of a creepy conjoined couple?? Goodnight.

Savin’ You Money Monday: the Glossier Dupe

02 13 17

Note: this post is not sponsored by any brand and all ideas/opinions are my own.

SO, GUYS, I think I’m going to start a new blog-series… thingy. I’m thinking maybe a couple Mondays per month, I’ll write about products (clothing, skincare, makeup etc) that I’m loving: two products that are exactly the same, at very different price points.

The idea came to me yesterday evening IN A DREAM, jk. It was when I was washing my face before bed. I was choosing which one of my 100 000 serums to apply and I noticed that my two very expensive glossier serums are LITERALLY EXACTLY THE SAME as two other serums that I own by the brand ‘The Ordinary’ from Deciem. The self-proclaimed “Abnormal Beauty Company”, which happens to make everything in Toronto (and also like 5 minutes from my apartment), creates skincare and haircare with good-for-you ingredients. I own a bunch of their products (primer, serums, face masks, cleansing conditioners etc), and I love em all. So I was initially happy but then immediately annoyed that I had spent $74 on Glossier products when I had the same thing sitting on my counter- for $6.

Turns out, Glossier’s ‘Super Bounce’ serum is just Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5 which you can discover just by reading their website for like 0.4 seconds which apparently I was too lazy to do. I was blinded by everything being cute and pink (but like… EVERYTHING IS SO CUTE AND PINK.) Deciem’s ‘The Ordinary’ brand has a serum DOUBLE THE SIZE that’s simply called ‘Hyaluronic acid 2% + b5’. How refreshingly straight to the point. Also- take a look at the zip code of the two New York addresses on the bottle. (The combo of hyaluronic acid and b5 is supposed to help with dry skin, by the way. I’ve definitely found that by using both of these serums, my skin is much more pLuMp and less flakey.)

Glossier’s ‘Super Pure’ serum is meant for red, blemish-y skin. It’s supposed to make your face chill the eff out and get it’s shit together. It’s a mix of Niacinamide and Zinc, which also happens to be the contents of another Deciem ‘The Ordinary’ serum, aptly named ‘Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%”.

To break this down for you: Glossier doesn’t ship to Canada, so Canadians either need to use an expensive third party shipping service or beg one of their American friends to ship it across the border (I have done both). If you’re American, WELL LUCKY YOU, and also I’m really sorry that Donald Trump is your president. But anyway. The Glossier serums are 15ml and the Deciem ones are 30ml. You’re therefore paying $56 US ($74 Canadian) for the same amount of product that you can buy from Deciem for FOUR DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS ($5.90 Canadian). I’m really shit at math but I know that is a CRAZY markup. I LOVE Glossier, but I think they charge this much because their bottles are pink, they have a crazy cute #aesthetic, and they send rainbow and happy face stickers with your order. And people (me) will eat it up.

Don’t get me wrong- I’m a fan of Glossier products. Their Boy Brow and their Mega Greens Mask are two of the best products I’ve ever used. HowEVER, there’s really no debating that their serums are hugely overpriced compared to Deciem’s brand, which I find work just as well.

Have you tried either of these products? Let me know what you think of them or if there’s anything else you’d like me to test/compare/review. UNTIL NEXT TIME, keep fit and have fun. Sorry. A little Canadian 90’s nostalgia.

PJ sets

02 10 17

I’m not gennnnnnerally one for bralettes- I usually like all the boob support I can get- but this new one from Addition Elle is so delicate and lovely. And there’s matching pajama pants, AND MATCHING BRAS AND PANTIES I can’t breathe. I have a little problem with matching sets, apparently. My favourite material in the whole world is what these PJ pants are made of. It’s the same material from which most of Addition Elle’s pajamas are made, as well as their modern fit t-shirts (I own literally 20. I’ll accidentally on purpose spill something on one and I’ll be like WELP, gotta use this as a PJ shirt now, better go buy another one for daytime wear). They’re just so thin (in a good way) and comfy and SO SOFT. Viscose and elastane are where it’s at.

P.S Please note the little ‘P’ for ‘Petrie’ on my dog’s little belly in that last photo. My partner likes to draw on my dog while he has a pen in hand for making grocery lists.
