So, I had never heard of Uniqlo until they came to Canada a few months ago. I figured, cool, another straight sized retailer whose clothes won’t fit me. When I posted on Facebook about wanting a plain turtleneck (no lettering, no stupid cold shoulder, no boob keyhole- fat retailer’s go-tos), a bunch of people told me that Uniqlo’s XL’s are quite roomy. I tend to like my clothing quite oversized so this top is a bit small for my liking, but it does still fit. And it has their fancy Japanese heat technology~~~ to keep you super warm. Or something. Also, it was $14 so I really can’t complain.
I’m really looking forward to springggGGgg so I can wear more culotte/sandal combinations. These shoes are THE MOST COMFORTABLE pair of heels I’ve ever worn in my life. I wore them on New Years and my feet weren’t even slightly sore (uh, from what I can remember).
Pants- Asos (on sale for like $25!!)
Coat- New Look
I’m sad to report that since these photos were taken, these jeans have been tossed. R.I.P, every pun intended. Every time I wore them the giant rip (which wasn’t there when I bought them, thanks thighs) grew closer and closer to my vagina. It got to the point where when I sat down you could literally see my entire leg from my underwear to my ankle so I thought it was time to give them up.
Loving this sweater though. Even though the sleeves aren’t full length it’s super cozy and warm. It reminds me so much of a boucle jacket my mom wore all the time when I was younger (which I still have in my closet). I remember once when I was probably 13 I wore the jacket to a sleepover, and I missed her so much that I used it as a pillow because it smelled like her. CUTE. It probably doesn’t fit me anymore since my mom was pretty thin, but I still like to keep it. Having a bunch of her things around makes me miss her a little less. Last week was the 3 year anniversary of her death so it’s been a little tough.
On THAT note, hope everyone is staying warm and getting through the January blues. xo
Jeans- Torrid (similar)
Turtleneck: Addition Elle
Sweater: Addition Elle (similar here– men’s stuff fits larger so it’s perfect for plus size)
LOOK GUYS, I made another thing. I enjoyed making that green crop top so much that I wanted to try my hand at a duster jacket. Side note: If I ever decide to work with velvet again, please punch me in the face.
I just, really love sewing! I’m so excited that I’ve found a ‘thing’. I mean, fashion has always been my ‘thing’ but making patterns and sewing clothes is a little more specific, ya know? Not that I’m good enough to do it as a job, I’ve just started and it’s obviously just a hobby, but 24/7 all I want to do is sit at my desk, listen to an audiobook and sew. Unless I’m eating cake or something and then I’m pretty invested in the moment.
If anyone wants to know how I made the pattern, I just took a sweater that fits me loosely, laid it on the velvet fabric and lengthened it when I cut (and cut the front in half, obviously). I traced the sleeves onto the fabric as well and just sewed down the middle of the back for more structure. I added faux fur letters that I cut out and that’s it. I highly suggest checking out WithWendy on YouTube- her sewing tutorials are amazing (she she’s from Toronto like me!)
